Thanks for all the helpful hints. I have been struggling with my spikes lately so I will try the woodburner and making slits method. I also don't like the distorted look of spikes when they are cinched up.

You ladies rock!!!!

Omg, I'm totally going to try this! I didn't think I could possibly love my woodburner more, but if this works, I may!

My usual method of spikes it to cut them, go back and make my V cuts with my woodburner and handy-dandy timy metal ruler. Then I lay them all out, clip them, start to sew/cinch them, curse as I see one side is too short or the spikes got "wonky", and start over...I tend to repeat this cycle often This could save me a lot of time and from teaching my boys some fun new words, lol.

I dont have a wood burner but i never thought about stitching spikes!. I always just glued them and when i made the center ribbon around my bow the middle always came out long because of the spikes! maybe if i actually did sew the spiked im sure it would be a lot better!!!

Thank you for the idea!

Just wanted to pop in and say I tried this a few days ago and I LOVE it!!! I love the way spikes look, but it always took forever!! Now I feel like I am cheating because it is SO easy to hold the spikes together with the woodburner!! You are all lifesavers!!! Thank you!!

I have had no luck with this either! My spikes stick together when I V-cut them!

Um, yeah, I have been converted. I was prepping a bunch of bows to be baked and strached, and didn't like one of my set of spikes. I thought it was the perfect time to try this out, and omg, I'm NEVER going back! They look great! Even better, after I was done burning them, I thought they still didn't look full enough, so I cut 2 more spikes, laied them underneath the compleated set, and burned away...voila! Easy fix!

Are you talking about each individual end of a spike? Or the top & bottom of the stack? Sometimes I have to run my woodburner through the stack a few times to create a void if that makes sense....
