Default Double sided tape vs. glue

I keep reading about double sided tape to line clippies with. Does it really work better than glue? Does it hold/ last as long as glue? Are all double sided tapes created equal or are there better brands than others?

Thanks!

I use hot glue and it sticks better than the tape does for me and I have used all the kinds of tape recommended on here

http://hipgirlclips.com/forums/how-m...slip-grip.html

check out that for my tutorial, shows BOTH ways, the trick to hot glue is to use HOT MELT and line the clip as I show...no glue gets on you to burn you.

I tried various types of double sided tape too and I still prefer hot glue. The tape looks nice, but I just didn't feel it was as durable as hot glue. Just my opinion. I know there's a lot of ladies on here that swear by the tape.

I was all excited about trying the tape when I first heard about it, but after giving it a go, I've decided I like glue better. The tape isn't wide enough, so when I line with 3/8" ribbon, it doesn't extend to the edges of the ribbon. This means that when two sides of the ribbon come together (like at the edges of the "pinch" section of the clip), the edges aren't tight and don't seal together. Hm. Not sure if that makes sense, but I can't think of how to describe it better.

Anyhow, I finally switched back to hot glue...

I've tried the tape on clips and it comes off on the back of the clip

If you are good with using the glue...I would stick to it....

I have had the same experience. I am also quicker lining with glue, so that may be part of my preference for glue. I prefer my clips to be tightly covered, no gaps at the edges...so imo, the glue works better for this.

I do like tape for layering ribbon...such as 3/8 on top of 5/8.

I love the tape. ♥ I use Specialty Tape's double sided tape. When I used hot glue the ribbon just popped off after a few days, but with the tape it has never come off. One of my customers has a little girl who chews on everything including her hair clips and she told me that she never has a problem with her ribbon coming off compared to other clips she's bought before.

As far as the width goes, I think the explanation I've seen is that the 3/8" leaves a sticky edge on your clip and collects dirt and hair. I use the 1/4" and haven't had a problem with it. I make the ribbon on the back long enough to ensure a good grip so it doesn't lift up. If it's too short it won't hold as well.

This is only MY opinion.
