I suggest skipping the drill and investing in one of these:

It will make your life so much easier. My husband drilled my caps and this is so much easier and faster.

I have my husband drill mine too and he uses a Dremel with a tiny drill bit. I tried doing it myself and I nearly put a hole in my hand!

I use my dremel and I went to home depot and I bought the smallest bits available for it and they are perfect! It comes in a small plastic case! I really love it! I also set my caps on the corner of a piece of wood (like the end of a 2 x4) and drill it that way. It works better for me.

I use 8mm and sometimes 6mm if adding beads on!

I bought a hole punch for metal and I don't think I even paid $10 for it, HL I think. Its simple. I would think much easier than a drill!!!
