Default New Here...need help!

Hi there,

I cannot believe that I never came across this site before. You ladies are so talented. I just wanted to make a simple clip for my 8 month old but my gosh, you have my head spinning cause there are so many other things I would like to make on my clips! Oh yeah and the tutus!!!! I cannot wait to try making that.

I tried making clips a few months back but I gave up when the glue gun would get all goopy and lumpy when I put the ribbon on the clip. It just didn't look nice and clean. I have the small Surebonder.

However, the clips that did turn out, fell apart after just a few uses.

I called Michael's today and a lady mentioned something called Fabitac?? She said that this might work. Have any of you used this product?

I would love to hear any suggestions you may have before I start.

Thank you so much!

Kam

I am not an expert by any means, but I LOVE Fabric tac!! It seems to work good, and so far it holds great. I started with the glue gun and hated it too! Too messy, and didn't always seem to hold very well.

Have fun! This site is very addicting!

the liquid stitch - did you use that for lining the clip? I would love something other than a glue gun

Thank you for the quick responses. I'm going to buy the fabric tac tomorrow!

Now is there anything that I am supposed to use so the ribbon doesn't fray when I cut it?

Hi welcome to the group! I use hot glue, make sure your gun is set to high temp, and make sure you give it time to get hot. Alot of people use fabritac I am just to impatient!

Your "I wanna make that" list will just keep growing!! trust me

I use Fabri-Tac and also another product also by Beacon Adhesives, Magna-Tac, which I actually prefer for gluing ribbon to metal, although it's harder to find (not sold at Wal-Mart, Michaels, etc.).

To keep the ribbon from fraying, you can use Fray Check (sold at Wal-Mart, Joann Fabrics, and Michael's I think - about $2 a bottle), or you can heat seal with a match/lighter or woodburner if you have one (I bought my woodburner specifically to seal ribbon ends - I didn't feel comfortable with the open flame near ribbon). Or, you can use the more readily available clear nail polish - the results may not last as long as some other methods, but if you're making these for your own daughter you can always touch up if necessary.

Good luck!

Hi ladies,
I posted this on another thread, but I think it will be useful here also. I tried Quick Grip by Beacon, and I perfer it over fabri-tac. No odor, remains flexible, does not get hard like the fabi-tac (you can even sew thru it), has a quick grip, dries quick, and is still washable. I just can not use any type of glue gun to get the clips to remain smooth.
