I would measure the spikes to fit your bow. Once you have done that then fold you end of the of your ribbon and cut at an angle.

Make your spikes 1" longer than the width of the topper bow.
Dovetail & heat seal
Mark the middles of each spike
Stack them all on a needle (to keep them even!)
Fan them out as you'd like (symmetrically of course)
Stitch to crease
Cinch
Wrap
Tie off
starch w/ sta-flo (or Niagara works well too)
Bake

Voila!!!

What temp and time do you bake the spikes? I'm going to attempt my first spike bow today.. Haven't baked any of my bows before but you made it sound so easy.. :P

I think I read somewhere where Shelley bakes hers at like 260. I bake mine at 250. Just kinda depends on your oven. I used to bake at 275, but the dye on the ribbon was bleeding through on my swiss dots and the black stripes on my zebra were turning the white to gray, so I had to reduce temp a little.

Yup! 260 for 20 min. I have issues with swiss dots taking on the color with navy, red & black though. Does 250 prevent this?
