Default Cheer Bows??

I have a mom who wants me to make cheer bows for her DD's school. I will be making 15. How much do you charge for them? I have never made cheer bows before but it's just like a basic except it has long tails and is layered with another ribbon right? I will be doing gold on top of navy. Thanks!

Are you just using ribbon? no metallic/sequin fabric? My last order I charged $8 but that was for three layers of ribbon.
Have you made them before? They can be a real pain because you have to heatnbond each layer together and sewing them is tough because they are so thick.

I am using this metalic ribbon. I made 45 for a dance recital a few weeks ago with white ribbon and blue organza ribbon. They did not have the long tails. They were just the basic bow with tail in front and back. I guess I'm confused about why you would have to use heatnbond. I have a bow maker from ribbon retreat and I just wrap both ribbons around at the same time and they don't move after they are finished. Do you have any pictures of your? Thanks!

Cheer bows need to be stiff and with tails, the layers need to be stacked so they dont move, hence the heatnbond. This is a quick example I whipped up to show a team-

Here are some links-

Is this for a competition? cheerleaders lose/earn points based on appearance(uniformity of the team) so bows have to be the same. Bows also take a beating, which is why they like them stiff.

No it is just for games. They already gave bows for football and wanted new ones for basketball. Thanks for the info!

Now I disagree with the ALL heat n bond. I use heat n bond for my sequins or mystic to fuse onto the ribbon. This is a bow I just made for a local team for basketball. I actually don't even use the bowmaker (from TRR) I mark the middle and how many inches out from the middle then fold onto the needle, crease, sew and secure. I do tack the loop of the bow where the ribbon is at the middle to keep it all lined up. I also have my teams store their bows in the clear plastic containers so the bows do not get messed up.

This bow is usually $9 (for a 2 layer non-sequin) but because it was a rush order it was $11/bow. 3 layer, with my standard 6" tails is $11, anything with fusing ribbon goes up from there depending on how many layers I'm going to be fusing. If you are just using the metallic ribbon then you won't have as much work. I made up a standard pricing chart for my squads since I have several schools I work with. This allows the coach and the parents decide on what they want to spend vs. what the bow will look like. It took the confusion away and I think increased sales for me!

HTH!

In this bow are the two layers attached? or did you just lay one on top of the other? I know that sounds dumb but didn't know how else to ask

No, I did not "attach" the top ribbon to the bottom ribbon to fold the bow.

I guess it hard to understand without pictures, the zebra ribbon is laid on top of the purple ribbon centered. I fold the bow holding the 2 ribbons taunt so they don't move, sew the center, attach pony or clip, put the center on. then put a dab of fabric-tac at the center of the loop on the zebra ribbon to keep it centered. Then V cut and seal.

Make any sense?

definitely makes sense! That is how I make mine but was hoping that you had a better way to make the loops stay together better. I am too anal and dont like that they don't stay perfectly centered.
