Default Question about ruffle jeans..HELP!

I made my first pair of ruffle jeans and LOVE them! BUT....the ruffle underneath looks messy. I sewn on the ruffle and flipped it over so it looks nice on the front but the underneath of the jeans where the ruffle is looks terrible! I know you can't see it but do you cover it somehow...the thread will start to fray I'm sure if I don't. HELP!

The tut I saw did a strip of ribbon on the inside so that it gave it a clean look. Not sure if that will help you or not.

I LOVE making ruffle jeans and have had to make myself stop b/c all my dds jeans would be ruffled! Here are a couple of options:
1. roll hem the jeans underneath b/4 putting ruffle on
2. i always sew a 7/8 inch ribbon on top of the ruffle that's showing and I sew this right next to (1/4 inch) from the part I cute off and do a tight stitch around them-this keeps fraying to a min. and you don't have to hem them.
3. Or, something I intend to try is the thread by pricess stinky pants on here that had a new way to hem jeans without taking up the originial hem.
HTH! Let's see pics of yours!

If you do not have a serger you can zig zag stitch the bottom after you straight stitch the ruffle on. Trim it back with scissors so it's clean before you zig zag stitch. This will make it look more neat.

Forgot to mention do this before you flip the ruffle back down, when you are done you can flip it back down and top stitch it.

I actually hem the ruffle on top, and bottom, then I flip it upside down, and then zig zag stitch it on. It is always very neat and clean. I love making these pants...They are too cute!!

Hi. I assume you don't have a serger to finish the seam so you should DEFINITELY zig zag the edges with a wide zigzag stitch. Otherwise they will fray badly in the wash. And also after you turn the ruffle back inside always give a hard press, pressing that seam UPWARDS then topstitch it down so it won't go all wonky on you. Very important and it makes your stuff look not homemade. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about. The line of stitching above the ruffle.

O I LOVE you girls....ok, what I did was cut the pieces, then I hemmed one side. I should have done the other side too right?! Or maybe ziz zag the side I'm hiding?! I did one pant leg....here is a pic and then a pic of the inside where it looks terrible. Also....are you saying that I can zig zag instead of hem?! Umm....
