I have a glass cutting board that I use to cut on, and I taped a ruler underneath it so that I can measure while I am cutting. I know it sounds all crazy that way, but it works for me! Also, someone on here gave us the idea to use a coffee mug to put your hot burner in while using it...cause the stands do stink at holding them up. HTH

Mine always do but when I'm cutting korkers I don't lay my ruler flat, I just kind of hold one edge of it down on the ribbon (if that makes any sense at all).

Yes, it will.

Thanks!!

I have a metal ruler, but it's really my husbands really large 'L' shaped one. I need a smaller one for me. Maybe that would make it easier to handle.

This is what I do...On my bow desk I have a large piece of glass (I lucked out the people that lived here before me left it here!) and on the backside of it I have drawn measurements, increments of .5", with permanent marker...This is what I use for cutting & measuring.
I don't know how to add pictures in here but here's the steps:
Picture 1: Lay your corker ribbon out straight on your cutting board (glass)
Picture 2: Determine the length of your corkers, I'm cutting this to 2.5"
Picture 3: Uncork the ribbon and spread between your thumb & finger
Picture 4: Cut your ribbon using the woodburner, I don't use a ruler because I find it easy to get it straight
Picture 5: Finished Corker piece cut to 2.5"

Thanks for looking

I love using my wood burner to cut & seal in one step!! I rest my woodburner in a glass loaf pan, which has a damp sponge off to one side. When I get a bit of ribbon "goo" on the woodburner and it starts smoking, I just wipe it off quickly on the sponge to stop the smoking. I also set my glue gun so that the tip is suspended over the glass pan to keep the hot tip off the table, and any glue drops clean right up!

This is exactly how I did it, I don't think you need to use a metal ruler, mine turned out perfectly straight and I didn't use one.

And I am totally cracking up that someone thought I was coming out of the closet as a mormon. LOL, hilarious.

Ladies - I love my woodburner. I go back to thinking when I was cutting and sealing both ends and can't believe I did it that way. Here's what I do. I bought a smaller glass cutting board at Walmart and did the same as regards to the measurements on the underside and what I did is, I went to the thrift store and bought a shorter glass vase and I place my burner in there during use and then for storage too (sort of like the mug idea but my sides are a litte bit taller). One last hint that you ladies might like. Sometimes you do get the goo built up, ladies if you're just starting, trust me, you'll get better and you won't get as much goo on there but I use a painter's sanding block and I use that to clean the tip and sometimes I get a residue on my glass so I use the finer side and rub the glass to get it off too. I bet you can use a buffer like for nails too but I would one that has a coarse side and a fine side for your glass. Hope this helps someone. I bought and took back and then forced myself to try it again and thank god I did!
