Default Whats the "rule" for stacked bows with spikes?

I am new to bow making - but am learning SO MUCH on this forum!!

I was wondering what kind of bow you use as your base for stacked bows that have spikes. Twisted, or pinwheel, or something else? What do you prefer?

Also you really need to have that base bow because if not the spikes are all floppy right?

Sometimes I don't want to add the base because it would make the bow too big, but don't want a floppy bow either. My twins are 5 months and have small heads, so a stacked bow is usually almost as big as their heads. Not that I really mind... The bigger the better I say! LOL

Anyway, what do you ladies like?

i always add a twisted bow to the bottom of my bows, i don't like stacked bows without the bows on the bottom that much, but some people do!

I use spikes...my biggest selling bow is my stacked with spikes. My customers all prefer the spikes on the bottom of the bow because the spikes lay on the head. Just what they tell me. I have made some with the spikes inside..but not too many of my customers like them this way. So, I always stack them in this order

Spikes (usually 5-8, depending on how I layer them)
Large 4.5" Twisted Bow
Spikes (5/8, about 3)
then a 3"twisted bow
My center ribbon and center.

It is really up to your personal preference.

I usually do a large twisted bow (4-5 inches), spikes (anywhere from 4-8, just depending how I'm feeling when I'm making the bow), surround loops go next, then my smaller twisted bow (around 3 inches).

My layered bows have a 4" twisted bow on bottom, followed by 8-10 spikes, a loopy layer, and then a smaller 3" twisted bow on top.
I usually make the bottom layer with 1.5" ribbon, but sometimes use 7/8" on bottom if I don't want the bow to stand too tall.

This one is made with 1.5" ribbon on bottom....
