This is my very first letter to this group. I am going to try the Korker bows. I'm just getting started into bow making because I have my first granddaughter.
Thanks for the instructions. I will get me some dowels tomorrow and start. This looks like its going to be a fun group. Thanks again.

Thanks for the great tips! I've been avoiding baking things, because my oven scorches everything....

Good news is, I have a brand new oven in the basement. Bad news is, I am not sure when it will be installed, there is some re-wiring of electrical circuits, etc. to be done in the process. In the meantime, I've considered buying korked ribbon....but I think I'm still too cheap!!

I use 18" long dowels, cut the korked ribbon in 8 pieces. I use 4-5 dowels worth per bow, depending on the size bow I am making. I too spray with starch before baking, and sew them.

I make mine myself too! I am too impatient to wait for korked ribbon to come to me.. LOL!

Although a friend of mine, made me a korker set before I got into bow making, with the pre korked ribbon from RABOM and it was SUPER good quality, so if anyone ever needed it pre-korked in a pinch, I think it would work great!

  • (or 1/4" ribbon on the 1/2" dowels for gymbo korker pony o's!!!!)
  • saturate by spritzing on a 50/50 mix of sta-flo starch & water (in the laundry aisle, big blue jug. Cheap!)
  • Bake at 275 for 20 min (unless white or printed, do 260)
  • Then cut I cut each 12" strand into 4 even segments that are 3" each (Easy to do, just fold in half & cut, then fold each cut half in half and cut again. No measuring required)
  • Heat seal all ends
  • I then stitch through the center of each 3" segment so they are stacked in a spiral if that makes sense. Stack them on the needle one at a time and fan them around.
  • Then cinch, tie off and glue onto a clippie.
  • If you want to, you can use a scrap piece of unkorked 3/8 at the base of your korker (thread it onto your needle before you put your korks on) so you can glue this over the clip to secure just like a bow center.
So that makes 6 12" strands x 4 segments = 36 3" strands per korker.

Oh, and I've been on here for over 2 years and I still get lost
Thanks for posting this. I have been trying to find out how to do this. I made a few for halloween but they turned out a little less than vibrant. They were printed and white. so I wish I had known your trick for the temp on those. Anyway, thanks again!

I am sorry. I am real new at this. What did you mean when said "stitch through the center" and the other one. Can you PM me a picture so that I might better understand. I am really trying to learn how to do this. I have the korker ribbon made and they are so freakin' cute. I just want to make it look good. Thanks.
