I drench the ribbon on the dowel with sta-flo starch (diluted to 50% with water), then I bake for 275 for 20 minutes. Let cool all the way. Assemble the korker. Spray with Niagara starch & hang upside down to dry. I don't always do the last step, but I've found that it makes perfectly poofy, stiff korkers.

I don't put anything on it and cook around 300 degrees for 20 minutes. I think letting it cool all the way makes a big difference! GOOD LUCK!

Definitely let it cool all the way. I ran into the same problem getting ready for a show. I was in a hurry and didn't let them cool all the way. I had to redo them. Starch does help too.

THanks ladies. I baked mine at 250 for 30 minutes, and left in the oven to cool. When I was unwrapping them they were cold. Whey do you spray them? After you make a korker or on the dowel?
ANd one more thing, what size of dowel do you use? Mine says 5/16.

I bake mine at 275 for 25-30 minutes. I don't use starch. You may want to increase heat and time....but keep an eye on it. Everyones oven is different.

Also, make sure you are wrapping them tightly. The tighter you wrap the tighter the kork.

Here is how I do mine

  1. Wrap ribbon on dowel
  2. Starch
  3. Bake 275 for 20 min on a parchment lined cookie sheet
  4. Take out to cool
  5. Cut & seal korker pieces
  6. Assemble korker
  7. Spray one last time after all put together
  8. Hang upside down to dry "perky"
