Default What brand of ribbon do you like for wovens?

I've made a few woven headbands now and I'm wondering if anyone notices a difference between different brands of ribbon for how easy/difficult they are to work with.

I just made one and had a heck of a time. It took me hours bc it kept getting gaps so I would have to unwrap and redo over and over-argh! My first one seemed way easier and it was a diff. brand of ribbon. Or was it just beginners luck???

Sometimes the ribbons are slightly different widths and it will drive you absolutely crazy. YAMA ribbon is fantastic for consistancy...(keep an eye out for group buys--it's worth it)
I love using a combination of satin and grosgrain for a nice contrast, or all satin classes it up ; )
Also love saddle stitch/lollipop ribbon for the outside.

I think the gaps depend on the size of the headband you are using. If I do 1 in headbands, I will put a dab of hot glue every few weaves to hold the ribbon in place as I go. If I use the 1/2 in headbands I do not have many problems at all. I have used just about all brands of ribbon on them too.

That is a great idea! It was a 1 inch that I was working with and the clips were not enough to hold it. My hands were cramping up by the time I finished it- and to top it off the ribbons were a bit short so I had fun trying to finish the ends nicely!

Yama ribbon, hmmm never heard of that yet. Is it only available through group buys?

I have some duck bill clips I use to hold my work in progress. They are longer than the other clips we use. My fingers cramp and my wrists get sore if I am in a push to get a bunch of them done in one night. I always use Tiger Balm on my wrists before I start. I always over cut my ribbon as well and just use the scraps to make clippes with when I am done. I have 6 sandwhich bags full of scraps here now. Been making them for a few years not so it adds up. I hate to make clippies but with the double sided tape it is much easier and faster.

i use UB for headbands - sometimes add a print from time to time. you go through so much of it, and it doesn't matter if it is not as stiff as other brands for headbands.
