Default i need a how to with the woodburner

i'm hating i! i know i can learn to love it, but right now cutting ribbon with this takes me longer than cutting with scissors and running a lighter by it. can someone explain to me, step by step what to do. my woodburner is hot, i use the tip that everyone recommended and it still takes me 5 billion passes to cut it and then it looks like crap! argh!!!

Those ways are exactly the 2 ways I do mine

I mostly just use mine for sealing ribbon and cut with scissors

When I first started using the woodburner I used the tip to cut and seal at the same time, but now I cut with scissors, and use the barrel to seal. I find it less time consuming, and also my table is just too cluttered to have room to use the ruler and tip seal. HTH

Even if you don't cut with the woodburner, and just seal on the barrel, I find it's a much cleaner seal with the woodburner, than with a lighter. And the flat, pointy tip is fantastic for v-cut seals - there's just no comparison with that vs. trying to seal a v-cut with a lighter! It's much crisper

That's true, although the few times you might get burned from a woodburner - OUCH! I speak from experience

Apart from my careless user-error, I could never go back to sealing with a lighter - I love my woodburner!

Play with it for awhile until you are comfortable with it. I know I was scared to death of it and thought I would never like the damn thing. Now I cannot live with out it.

It is much faster to cut with scissors and go back and seal the ends with a metal ruler or free hand. I prefer the metal ruler though.

okay, that's what i had asked in another post, and they said to use it to cut with too. anyway, i fiddled around with it more after i posted this and found that if i do it sans ruler, it works a ton better. i just have to pull it taught between my index finger and thumb, flat on the cutting board [make sense?]. i started really liking it. but this was 3/8 ribbon, not sure how it'll work for bigger ribbon. it was pretty quick since i had my glass surface ontop of my quilting measuring square thing. anyway, thanks you guys for your input!
