Default Chiffon tutus?

Has anyone made a chiffon tutu (not a pettiskirt)..how do you make it fluffy like a tulle tutu? Do you use tulle for the bottom layer and add nylon chiffon for the top layer?

TIA!

I would think you would have a fraying problem, unless you finished all the edges. I'm interested in seeing if anyone has tried it

I bought some rolls of nylon chiffon from afc-express.com, and no they don't fray at all. From what I've read regular chiffon does fray but nylon does not. I'm also in need of idea's for a costume. I have made a regular tutu empire waist dress but my dd said it was itchy and also the strips of tulle were constantly getting tangled & bunched up. Just playing around with the nylon chiffon I can tell that it will not be fluffy at all. Any ideas appreciated!

I'm guessing you'd need layer(s) of tulle underneath for the 'poof' and then the top visible portion the no-fray chiffon.

What about using a little bit of organza underneath to give the poof? Organza does fray, but you could finish the edge or use fray check. Or else maybe a layer of chiffon before you do the layer of tulle?

If anyone tries this, please post pics. I'd LOVE to see how they turn out.
