Default Elastic stretching when making tutus

When you make a tutu does your elastic stretch out? How much stretch would you say is normal? Mine stretches out quite a bit - am I making the knots too tight? I started with an 18 inch waist it is now stretched to 20 inches and I still have a little bit left to do.

Mine usually stretch about 2 - 3". I like to make my knots pretty tight too, I think it makes the tutu look fuller!

You are making your knots to tight if it's stretching that much. Loosen your knots up some, make them small and you can fit lots of strips on the tutu.

You have to be careful stretching it out to much as the elastic will break down faster.

I always cut my elastic about 5 inches smaller than i want it to be so if i want a 18 inch waist i cut it to 13 inches so i can get a nice full tutu

I have this issue as well. I find that if I don't make the knots small enough I can't get the tutu as full as I'd like.

don't use a loopy knot like most tutorials show you. use a square knot. that has saved my life, and my elastic! mine don't stretch out at all. you just got to do it tight enough that it's close to the elastic, but not stretching the elastic. you can always double up the tulle or go back around and tie on more tulle in between what you already have. this is the best thing i could've read somewhere [can't remember where i got this tip]. i had given up on elastic until i tried this!

I'll try that. If I loosen up the knots I am afraid they will look too big. I like smaller knots as they tend to look more uniform.

The tutu seems more fluffy with the square knot too doesn't it? Or is it just me?
