Has anyone ever tried singeing with anything other than a flame? I was wondering if a woodburning tool would get hot enough. It just seems like something like that would give you better control - especially with things like tulle and organza, which will shrivle into nothing in a heartbeat when exposed to flame - trust me, I know!

Here are a couple that I made out of satin.

I love these!! The pearl in the center is a great idea!

Beautiful, I love those and the pearl is so classy. How much do you sell them for?

Traci, your flowers turned out beautifully! Wow! Can I ask what shape you cut your fabric in? Were they ovals? I really love the overall shape you achieved! Beautiful.

I cut mine in circles with my fabric circle cutter and sometimes I cut them in to petal shapes

Here is the free tut I gave away on here a few months back

Thank you so much for the idea!
Does the material need to be stiff? Organza has some "body" to it so I was wondering if something not as stiff would work?

I tried some today and the organza didn't really curl up as well as the satin type. I probably didn't do it right anyway, mine looked a little flat. Do you cut all the pieces the same size or make different sizes and stack from big to small?
Oh and I was at Joanns getting my fabric for this (nice 50% off presidents day sale too) and some of the satin / organza said "flammable" on the label, but other similar ones didn't say that. It was all 100% polyester too. I didn't get any that said "flammable" .. would those be ok or would the material go up in flames?

If you look at the tutorial I attached it shows how I cut the fabric.....

Also, the problem with the organza not singing might be due to the heat from the candle not being high enough, if anything, it singes MORE than you want it to.

Also, the fabric HAS to be polyester, if it is not, it wont singe, poly is a plastic derivative and that is why it melts so well

All poly is flammable, it is a plastic the key is not letting it touch the flame, if it DOES, anything with poly will catch fire

I'm glad I looked at your tutorial again. It was helpful. I like seeing how everyone cuts their fabric. I use the fabric circle cutter for mine, but lately, I haven't liked how perfectly symmetrical everything looks. Lately, when I look at my creations, I feel like they look like circles of fabric that poof out from the side of the head too much.

I want my flowers to be a little less perfectly circular, but I can't figure out how to get good shapes when I cut by hand or try to make a template. For some reason, I seem completely unable to cut petal or blossom shapes. Seriously, they end up looking like blobs! lol.

Anyone have any good suggestions? I'd love to hear what everyone else is using to cut out their fabric...
