Default Re: fabric and organza "singed" flowers?

Here's my first one. I used a font to print a flower shape and then used that as a template. I also layed the petals over a metal spoon as I singed them. It really made the fabric want to curl over the spoon. I used several lighters (they got hot!) and not a candle. I felt like I had more control that way.
I have pics of the process if anybody wants them.

Wow! Your technique is really clever - the flowers look like peonies, and they're absolutely lovely!

Ladies - I make these and let me share my "green" with you.....go to the thrift store and buy a shirt (men or woman's) and just make sure it's polyester. Viola, material in various colors and patterns and you can get TONS of "petals/circles" from one shirt and it probably cost you a dollar or two in material. That's my recycling tip of the day.

A few people asked me to post the pictures I took while I made my flowers. I put them on a picturetrail. Here it is...

http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/22578669 I think it is best viewed in slideshow mode. That way you can read the descriptions better.

Thanks!

That is a gorgeous flower! I will have to try the spoon technique, althought most of my flower are much smaller, so I don't know that it will work as well.

Has anyone ever tried singeing with anything other than a flame? I was wondering if a woodburning tool would get hot enough. It just seems like something like that would give you better control - especially with things like tulle and organza, which will shrivle into nothing in a heartbeat when exposed to flame - trust me, I know!

Here are a couple that I made out of satin.

I did some in organza and you do have to be careful. I do mine near a sink. LOL Gorgeous flowers by the way. Great job to everyone.
