Default How to make this paper wreath

I need some general crafting help here, ladies. I have the paper folding down, but I need you best guesses as to how this is assembled.
What is the black layer in the middle - paper, fabric, felt?
And what is you best guess as to how the paper rolls are arranged - styrofoam??? Just glue?? C'mon, some of ya'll have got crafting know-how that amazes me - chime in here please.

This would be a PERFECT gift for my husband to give to the doctors he works with (and since it's medical text - it's a-ok according to Uncle Sam!)

Thanks!

I'm not sure how I would piece it together... I think the center would look awesome with velvet fabric! It's hard to tell what they used! I know someone here will have an awesome idea of how to do it!

the assembly really has me stumped...I have the old medical texts just sitting in my garage and everything. This is the perfect craft for them!

what about using a styrofoam wreath and pinning the paper to it with those u shaped floral pins? The center looks almost like and award ribbon center. Not sure about the very center of it but the pleated part looks like it might be satin and I think you can get it by the yard like that. HTH!!

I'm probably wrong but here is how I would try to do it. Cut a circle out of cardboard, trace a smaller circle in the center(I would use a compass and a ruler to make sure that I'm in the exact middle and to make sure my circle is correct). Roll a page and staple it to the outer edge of the cardboard circle and continue until you're all the way around. Then do another layer inside of that one and so on until you reach the circle that you traced into the center. The center has me stumped also, but I would use a loose rope trim for the outer part and print the image on felt or a thick material for the inner to be placed after the trim is set in place. Since the trim is kind of bulky and for the image not to look lowered in the center, I would cut a circle the size of the inner part out of either cardboard or poster board and then glue the fabric of choice to the back and then attach it to the center. HTH

Oooohhh....the cardboard is a good idea! And lightweight too!
For the center, I was thinking of cutting a cardboard circle and covering with black felt or satin (kind of like a big ol' covered button).
And the center picture - I might have to modpodge it onto cardstock and cut very carefully...and just glue it on.
I am soooo making my daughter take a nap today so I can try this!
Any other suggestions are welcome! keep them coming ladies!

I have no idea, but I'd love to see what you come up with. It looks cool!
