when i started, i didn't have a place like this to go to with so much useful information.
i first went to Joann's and Michael's to play with some stuff and figure things out. once i learned some things (lots of internet searching, but this site should help you out), i bought some items more in bulk. now that i have a business (started as a hobby), i buy lots in bulk.

good luck!

You can buy the double or single prong alligator clips at a Sally's Beauty Supply, if you have one. That's probably one of the cheapest places to buy them. They are 100 qty. for $5.29. Sometimes they go on sale, too, and you can get them for only $3.99/box. The ribbon you want to line these is 3/8". 1/4 won't cover it enough. You can use the search function on here to search for all kinds of things. I would look around at psots & stuff & decide what it is that you are interested in and do a search for it on here. That should give you a jumping off point HTH!!

First, congrats on tackling this fun hobby!

I actually WAY prefer snap clips over alligator clips - for babies I like the 1 1/4" and for toddlers on up I like the 2". You can get them on hipgirls.com, the ribbon retreat, and lots of other sites. The ribbon retreat is great for grosgrain ribbon of all widths. Once you master a bow, head for the double ruffle ribbon. It's more expensive than grosgrain but it's soooo adorable! Another big seller, especially for 3 month olds are nylon headbands. You can embellish them with just about anything but a nice big bow in 1 1/2" wide grosgrain is probably the easiest and always looks super cute.

Grab a decent glue gun but you don't need anything fancy. Be prepared to make a lot of mistakes at first but keep on trucking and you'll be a pro in no time!

thanks so much for your advice... i was so eager i placed an order and only ordered alligator clips...

i was wondering, what type of bow do you recommend for a 3 month old? i'd like to try to learn while using her as my helper hehe
i want to make a nice simple bow first... does anyone have easy instructions? what about using a little velcro to get it to stay on her head.. she doesnt have much hair yet

Awww I am so honored you are reffering to MY STORE hahahaha! I do make up korker kits for the korkers I offer on my site as well as never seen ones!

If you are interested let me know!

1 kit contains 40 18 inch korkers (that is enough to make 10 korkers)
10 unlined aligator, snap, or mix of clips
10 grips
3 centers

Everything you need to get started

Like others had said, these types of forums are very useful! I didnt discover this one until last year (have been making bows since early 2006ish) I bought a TON of instructions, but really none helped, it was practice makes perfect!
