Is it an image or text? The program that you use has to support pdf file saving.

The easiest way is to install a PDF printer. Basically, it's a program you install and it shows as a printer you can choose (instead of your usual printer). Then, when you "print" the document it creates it as a PDF. This is the one I use (it's free!):

Download it from the link in the upper left.

...or a PDF printer like above. You won't be able to edit the PDF document, but you can just make changes on the original document and "print" it again.

I installed it too and if I understood you don't open it you use it as a printer. You create your document using MS Word or whatever you use and when you are ready to put print and use that as a printer and that will convert it to a PFD. I hope that is right!

Okay, get your document exactly as you want it. Now, you are ready to make it into a PDF. Go to File>> Print>> and change the printer (from your regular printer) to CutePDF Writer. Click Print. After a few seconds, a new box will pop up asking you where you want to save your file. Find where you want to put it and then click Save. You can even do it from Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, whatever you use to browse the Internet, so try it right now from this screen you are reading!
