Question Plastic lap trays at Michaels

Anyone know what to use to personalize those plastic lap trays at Michaels? I thought about painting it with regular acrylic paint and then sealing with Mod Podge. Would that work? Any other tips? I really want to make one for a birthday gift.

Try paint pens.

Paint pens will work on the lap trays, I used them on the plastic totes that Michaels also has. I bought some for Christmas a couple years ago for the cousins and painted their names and then stenciled little designs on them and they turned out pretty good.

I figured it was time I came out of lurkdom and joined in....lol

Thanks for your responses and thanks DinNC for "coming out of lurkdom" lol! (BTW, I lurked here for a while before I ever posted too ). I didn't know if paint pens alone would work because I used them to decorate a wipe case for DS and the paint scratched off pretty easily. That's why I thought I should seal it with something.

I didn't seal the ones I did and they didn't smudge but I believe the texture is a little different than the wipes cases. Maybe lightly sand it if it has a smoother texture and the paint pens won't smudge?

You'd think I was a shy person but I'm really very talkative....lol
