Default how much tulle for tutus do you use

I usually make my tutu's with about 40 pieces of tulle. I've seen them with 80! Do you ladies have a certain number of pieces of tulle that you use for your tutus?? Just wondering, thanks.

No I don't have a certain number. I just keep going until it's full! The amount of tulle needed will vary anyway depending on the length of the tutu and the size of the waistband.

that's true. the ones I saw that had about 80 pieces were n there so tight. they were the kind were you loop the tulle and pull it through. I tried to get mine that tight and thought it was going to rip! they sure are cute though when they are that full.

Mine usually have about 80 pieces but I layer them and tie on 2 at a time. I think with my next one I am going to do three layers and get 120 pieces on it.

I end up using between 200-400yards of rolled tulle, and 3-7 yards of bolt tulle. I never really counted the pieces before

Let's see... I logged it all out when I made my first trial infant tutu. I did it in 3 layers which made the knots really big. I didn't care for the huge knots, but other people told me they preferred it to the smaller 2 layer knots.

3 layer Infant Tutu of 12" circumference/aprox 5" length:
each layer = 1 foot
3 layers per knot = 1 yard
2 knots per inch X 12 inches = 24 knots
24 knots X 1 yard = 24 yards

Hope that made sense, lol!

Basically I multiply length of layer X # of layers X # of knots per inch.

In a two layer tutu, I get 2.5 knots per inch.

2 layer Infant Tutu of 12" circumference/aprox 5" length:
each layer = 1 foot
2 layers per knot = 2 feet
2.5 knots per inch X 12 inches = 30 knots
30 knots X 2 feet = 60 feet or 20 yards

This might not be the same for everyone since skill plays a part in how large or small the knots are. But if you figure your own # of knots per inch, you should be able to pre-formulate how much tulle you need ahead of time.

I've counted mine and I usually use anything between 96-120 pieces depending on the size.

I've never counted the pieces before, but I usually use 100-300 yards of 6" wide tulle, depending on the size of the tutu.

I never thought to keep track of how many pieces I used before. I usually use bolt tulle and use around 7-8 yds of tulle for an infant toddler tutu. I have been told my tutus are very full. I only use one layer of tulle. I have thought about using two layers but I would be worried they would be too full and you wouldn't be able to find the little girl LOL
