Default interchangeable bows on shoes

Ainsley had a thread about bows for Moo shus (too cute and I hope I spelled it right.) Anyway, summer will be here (I say this while we are getting dumped with snow) and I'm wondering if anyone has done bows for shoes and what did you use. The Moo shus apparently have a slit in the top of the shoe for an alligator clip to slide into. How could you embellish a pair of little canvas lace up sneakers? I'm thinking something interchangeable. That way, you sell more, lol! Has anyone done this?

I am thinking that you could somehow cut a slit in the top of them like the Moo Shoo's are. Hmmm. I might have to try something. I have a pair that I have to paint and decorate for a pageant for Mardi Gras on Feb 2. I might experiment. I will post pics.... Great idea. DO you think a wood burner would work?? Cut and seal a slit in one swoop??

I don't know...because unlike ribbon, where you can just cut off what you burned I was afraid if I messed up, then the shoe would be messed up...even if you couldn't see the mess because the bow would hide it, I don't want it to look ugly, lol! Plus, if I make it too big, the clip would move around. My first thought was just an exacto knife to cut a slit and maybe fray check it. I'm sure I have some old shoes of dd's around here to experiment with, too.

I'd love to see your painted shoes when you're done! I have seen the cutest painted shoes on etsy !

Thinking out loud here.

For lace up shoes, I was remembering in my childhood the "friendship pins" we used to make and wear on our shoes. They were safety pinned onto the laces. Could put a bow on a safety pin? Or an aligator clip, but turn the clip so it is vertical to the bow instead of horizontal?

I see, on the laces. Somehow, I kept thinking there must be a way with the eyelet holes. I need to get some shoes in my hands...then it'll make sense. Thanks for your input!

for the shoes that have the loop, I do the alligator clips. this is the way the company does there bows for the shoes. i was at a children's shoe store this week and was looking at some bows for flops. they were done on a different clip. I don't know what to call them so I will do my best to describe. the were up and down metal clips and only about maybe a 1/4" long and U shaped not side to side like an alligator clip and then where like it opened up and stayed open until you closed it back down. ugh, i wish i could do better. I guess more like a clasp instead of a clip. I dunno know, i give up.

was it like those binder clips you find at an office supply store? I have seen some instructions for flip flops that use those...I was thinking I wanted something a little more clothing oriented, lol!

Hey Joan.... I have seen bows on shoes with shoe strings. It looked like they took anywhere from 1-1 1/2" long of 3/8" ribbon or I guess any size you want and wrap it around the center of your bow to make a loop. Then take the two ends of the loop and melt/fuse them together using your soldering iron. Then slip the shoe string through it on the bottom where the lace goes straight across the shoe. I haven't done this before and don'tk now if the bow would flop - you may have to adjust the length of the ribbon. Another draw back would be that you would have to unlace your shoes to change out the bows. I'm wonderingif instead of soldering the ribbon you could attach velcro to the loop?
