Sometimes when I make the bows, my tails are maybe a half an inch off on either side as well. Sometimes it is because I cut the ribbon a little too long.
At times, it is because I have put the pin up through the dots that I have made, but when pulling the thread up through and then feeding the needle in and out maybe the dots weren't matching when I made the folds. Some say it could happen because I am pulling the folds too tight.
In any event, as long as you are able to match the tails up at the end before making the V-notch, I would not worry about it too much.

Not by like a couple millimeters, but like half an inch.
Why does it do this even though im putting a pin through the two dots?
