Default Does anyone know how to make a witches hat

I want to make a witches costume and I don't want to make a paper hat.
Does anyone have instructions for making one?
Also, I asked this question on the wrong forum...(still new to this),
I made my first tutu and the knots seem to loosen up easily. Is there a trick to getting them, and keeping them tight?

I would try posting a new message specifically about tutu knots. normally I wouldn't have looked at this post because I don't know how to make witch's hats, and there may not be very many people who know how to. You could also try posting the witch's hat question under the Sewing section on this forum. Then do your tutu knot question on this section under it's own heading HTH

i don't know about making witch hats [i was looking for that earlier today too], but as far as the tutus... i used to hate making them on ribbon because they'd fall apart so easily, until someone told me to tie them with square knots instead of the loopy knots all the tutorials tell you to use. i still use the loopy knots for my tutus made on ribbon cause i can get them super tight. i had to google square knots for a tutorial, but it's just your basic knot, you tie it once and then a second time, but the second time you do the opposite of what you did the first time. so say you went over then under, the second time you go under then over. i'm confusing, i know, but google "square knots" and you'll see. and it works perfect for me! and be sure not to tie them too tight, otherwise you'll stretch out the elastic too.

I think with square knots, you put one end in each hand and do right over left & tie, then left over right & tie. Does that make sense???

For the witches hat, I would recommend a product like timtex. At the fabric store, they'll have a small section of interfacing for making fabric bowls. You could fuse the timtex in between two layers of fabric. You'll need to measure out a circle, cut a dart into the circle (like Pac Man), and then fold up into the cone shape. I would pin and hand sew. You could even use a bright, constrasting embroidery floss and sew using x's for a neat look.

If you want a brim, cut out a doughnut shape to fit (with timtex sandwiched between and fused), finish the raw edges, and sew onto the cone. Voila!
