All items for children under 12 are required to be labeled with a permanent label, if the item is too small then the packaging must be labeled. This is in effect now, and all bow makers, tutu makers and crafters of children's items must comply.

Labels must include
company name
contact information (a website is not enough)
location made (city & state)
date made
and your tracking number which will tell you what materials you used in this paticular item and where it came from
small business crafters do not need a tracking number on the label, we just need to keep accurate records.

I'm doing the same thing because I actually do put my paci clips on a card to ship it so I'm just putting the label on the back.

I don't think products need to be coded by colors and product type it is much easier just to start with numbers.
example - 0001, 0002, 0003 etc.
Make the product first, then once your are done label or tag your item with it's number and then keep a note book or excel spreadsheet. Write down what the product is and what it was made next to the product number and just keep it for your records.

I designed my own labels and one size is a part that I tear off with the number on it. At craft shows I will just keep those tear offs on in a bag and when I get home I will paste them in my notebook.

i'm thinking about using index cards for each order for my records. on each card put a little piece of the ribbons used, and write where the ribbon was purchased and the customers info. does anyone think that would be too much work or a good idea to keep track of the ribbons used on each order?

For labeling, I am putting "address sized" labels on the back of the bow cards with the information required. As for tracking... I started a spreadsheet in excel... the tracking thing is what is killing me!

Since we don't have to test fabrics and such, I'm trying to get the certs. for adhesives and components to have on file.

Other than that... if I ever get audited or whatever, hopefully they will see I've made an effort to comply.

I like the index card idea. What is so funny is I was just thinking about that this morning. I also thought about a photo album thingy. The ones you can journal next to. You could slip your ribbons in the photo slot and then write each pertaining info.
I don't do a lot of duplicate bows so I would fill up an album in no time I'm sure, but atleast you would still have a sample of the ribbons if ever there is a question about them.

After feb are we going to be required to test or clips? or is a letter from the manufacturer enough? If I put a label on my bow (bow card of sorts) isn't the consumer going to throw it out? so if something gets recalled how are we going to know what we used?
