Default Layering Ribbon

So I was wondering how you layer ribbon for a two tone bow. I have tried gluing a 5/8" on top of a 7/8" and it gets a little stiff when I fold it and it's nearly impossible to pull a thread through it.

I've also tried using a thermo web ironed on to the back to adhere them together and again it's too stiff.

If I don't do some sort of adhesive the ribbon slips while I am folding it and looks messy.

Any suggestions?

Andrea

may i suggest using bits of thin double sided tape? it's a lot more flexible and doesn't make the ribbon stiff. i have this double sided tape, brand duck. it's about half an inch wide, clear when you peel off the paper, and really flexible. can't tell you where i bought it, i found it in my garage!

I don't glue when I layer my ribbon, I just stack it and make my bow.

If you need to adhere them to each other you could small pieces of selah tape to do it without adding any bulk to the ribbon and it wouldn't be stiff

I haven't tried the tape yet, but I make my bow without the ribbon taped or glued. Once I tie it off, I "tweak" the ribbon to get it in place where I want it, and once it is in place then I put a very small drop of glue on the back side of the loops in between the layers. Does that make sense? That way, it holds in place but doesn't get stiff. :-) Hope this helps!

use Aleene's tacky glue...be sure and smear it into the botton ribbon, leaving a thin layer(or it will bleed). wait 5 minutes and twist the ribbon into your bow(the ribbon will hold together and still be plyable enough to fold).

That's exactly the method I use! It can take some practice to keep the two ribbons from separating, but with some practice it works great!
