Default SUPER easy knots!

I know many of you are frustrated with tying knots at the end of your thread. My mom is a quilter and taught me the best trick for tying knots. This is SUPER easy and makes a perfect and thick knot every time.
Since it's rather hard to explain in writing, I've attached a step by step picture tut as well as a short YouTube video to see it in action.

My Favorite Knot

YouTube - How to Tie a Quilters Knot

I use upholstery thread which is a bit heavier than embroidery floss or standard sewing thread and won't break when your pulling those creases really tight. This method also works great if you sew korkers because you can stop the knot at any place on the thread (I usually leave 3" from the knot to tie off with). If you double up your thread just wrap both ends around the needle instead of the long end only.

Hope you find this helpful and are smiling about your easy knots!!

One more close up video for us visual learners.

YouTube - The Secret Knot or Quilter's Knot

Wrapping your thread 3 times makes a good size knot that wont slip through your ribbon.

Thanks so much. I was about to do a search on this topic as I had a horrible time yesterday. I made a heap of bows and hated tying the knots. Several times I pulled the needle after threading through the bow, pulled tight and the knot just came undone. Had to refold the bow all over again - ugh!! Great timing

that is a great knot! i love it for when i'm hand-quilting, sometimes a bit harder for me to maneuver when using it on bows, but it's such a great quilting trick

That is exactly how I make the knots at the end of my thread. I wrap three times around with upholstery or craft and button thread and it makes a perfect knot everytime when I'm sewing my bows.

Okay, this may be a stupid question, but how do you keep the unknotted end of the thread from coming through the eye of the needle? I usually do a double strand and knot the two togehter, so neither end can come out of the needle's eye, I've never had a problem with the knot coming undone.

That's how I make my knots but I use a double stand of thread, I learned it in a sewing class in 12th grade.
