Default How to attach rhinestone buckles to flip flops?

So, I just ordered some rhinestone buckles to make flip flops and now my question is what is the best way to attach them to the flops? Here's a picture of what I'm talking about:
http://www.fancyflops.net/i//tn_2009-04-16_003.jpg
I wrapped the strap of my flip flop and then I made the bow the same as in this picture, except I did a double loop of ribbon. But, I can't figure out the best way to attach it to my flip flop. I tried hand sewing the buckle onto the flip flop after I covered my straps. Then I slid my bow through the buckle. The problem is that the buckle still slides around and I don't want it to. I'm afraid of just gluing it on for fear that it might fall off. Any suggestions?

I do bows and buckles similar to that and I glue with E6000 AND sew for extra security.

I knew you would have some advice flipfloplady! I sewed the buckle on using 12 strands of embroidery thread and went through the flip flop (on both sides of the toe part of the flop) and the bar of the buckle 3 times. Should I do it this way and then squirt some E6000 up under the little bow and the flip flop to secure? Did that make sense? I have searched everywhere to try and find instructions or a tutorial on this and have had no luck.

I just wanted to add that I bought several pairs of flops that had the buckles sewn through the flip flop, and they irritated my feet so bad that I can't wear them long. I just wanted to suggest that if you are sewing them, if you can try not to allow the thread to be exposed so that it touches the top of the foot~ it might irritate the foot when wearing.

Thanks for sharing that information. Can you tell me if the knot of the thread is on the part that touches your foot? I was wondering if that was what was irritating your foot or the thread in general. If it is the knot, then I could make sure that my knots are on the top of the flip flop instead of the underside. I want to make some for a craft show this weekend, but want to make sure that they are durable.

No, the knots weren't on the bottom. It was the thread, but they used that invisithread so that could have made the difference. It is more coarse than regular thread. HTH and good luck at your craft show.

Would you believe I use fishing wire!

Ok, I do it two ways. If I wrap the strap I actually pull the ribbon I am going to use FIRST so the buckle is attached to the ribbon. Then I start to wrap the strap. When I am finished I center the buckle over the *v* section and glue. Now if I do not wrap and just do a bow with a buckle right on the rubber, I glue with a dab of E600. Then I sew the fishing wire through. I knot it at the top of the *v* and then dap the E6000 on the final knot so it doesn't come undone. When I am sewing the fishing wire I make sure each time I pull it up as tight as I can so no fishing wire is on the part that goes between your toes.

I have made and sold at least 50 of these and I wear three pairs myself and never feel a thing on my foot.
