I also wanted to note that when I first started I was using Wal-Mart ribbon, and realized immediately after ordering better ribbon online that the higher quality stiffer ribbon was much easier to work with.

If you have ribbon that's not real stiff, you can always starch it ahead of time.....that might make it a little easier.

Lol...It looks like my first bow. It's hard, isn't it? Just wait a couple more months and with practice and practice you'll get it. For me it was hard too. Now, I love making them. You can see the better ones now on my etsy.

These are my firsts bows...Look how crooked they are. So ugly I even don't know what to do with them. I stil have most of them. Maybe I should just give them away.

So, keep trying.

I would first say, don't be so hard on yourself It looks great! I'm not sure what "look" you are trying to achieve when making your bows, but I have found very useful tutorials on youtube.com (search boutique hairbows) and also Free Hair Bow Instructions: hairbow free directions, hair bow business work at home. Hope this helps you some! But let me say again, kuddos to you. You're doing fine!

Another vote for grosgrain. It took me about a year of making to be happy with my bows. Also-- is that ribbon wire edged? I can't really tell form the pic. I don't EVER use wire edged casue the wire doesn't form nicely and doesn't keep shape like regular grosgrain does. But great job for a beginner!!!

Like everyone here says just keep practising and don't give up. Everytime I can't fold a bow properly or I get antsy I look at one of my first bows (which I have in a prominent spot on my desk) and it reminds me how far I've come. Then I get motivated again. Or if I get real disheartened I buy more pretty ribbon and that motivates me again (and sends me broke!!). Keep at it

I definitely agree with everyone else, just keep practicing. I just started too and the two things that helped me tremendously are:

1. Use a jumbo salon clip -- like this one: Salon Care - Jumbo Plastic Clips -- to hold your bow together while you tie or sew it off. I could NEVER get the crease right, and once I got these, I just wrap the thread around the middle of the bow inside the clip and when I pull it tight, it makes a great crease.

2. Try to make a template. Or, you could buy one of the ones people talk about on here, but I didn't want to spend that much money on something I wasn't sure I'd use. I made several like this: Hair-Hardware.com - Show Some Love - Make A Bow (but out of a flexible plastic cutting board instead of cardboard so it would hold its shape better). With the template, all the loops always come out even.

Good luck, and if it makes you feel any better, I really don't think your bow looks that bad at all!
