Default How do you prevent the ribbon from fraying?

I always thought you slightly burn the edges and it seals them but the pair that was returned to me today by a customer one side of the loop, the ribbon was all frayed

What type of ribbon did you use? I always use a lighter, and fray check is also good to use.

Maybe the kid snapped the ribbon on something? But I heat seal with lighter or wood burner, and sometimes I notice my ends get frayed after lots of wear. I try to starch everythiung and that helps protect the bows, too.

I always use grosgrain ribbon. These flip were so beaten up I swear the kid played soccer with them!

I am going to start using starch as well.

I highly recommend using a wood burner. It seals and cuts the ribbon in one swoop. I don't think I have ever had a problem after I started using the wood burner. HTH

I noticed that some of my bows also started fraying after some wear. I'm not sure what to do.

When I was using a lighter I noticed after some wear the ends still frayed. I switched to the woodburner, and haven't had a problem since. I use fray check on sheer ribbon.

Which woodburner do you guys use? Can you link me to it? I usually use fraycheck but I guess the woodburner would be less expensive over the long run.

I use a wood burner and I do not have a problem with fraying. I did find if I went too fast (or my burner wasn't hot enough) then I didn't 'seal' the ribbon good, and it did start to fray but if I go slowly and I make sure my wood burner is hot, then there is no problem

Good luck,

Debora
