The salon clip is super helpful if you are going to tie off your center.
But, if you are going to sew your bow then you can just leave it on the template and sew up the middle and slide if off before you gather the center. The nice thing about sewing them while they are still on the template is that your loops won't slip and you are guaranteed that they will all come out even. HTH

I use those templates as well. Mine are made out of cardboard, and are getting a bit bendy, so when I go back to Wal-Mart I will definitley pick up the cutting boards, and re-do mine.

I really like using the homemade templates for pinwheels. It has helped me to get even loops every time, and I can make them faster with the templates. I'm not a very good freehand bowmaker yet.

Anyone know if you can make your own template for a boutique bow, or other styles besides the mini and the pinwheel?

for the boutique bow, follow the video demo from here:
http://www.lookatmebaby.com/video/GB_RNR_0003.wmv
use your own homemade template and a salon clip in place of the gator bite.

Thank you so much for posting that link. It really helps. I'm going to try the template as soon as I can find some more cardboard.

I found that doing them by hand made a better bow than using a template. Maybe I'm just picky? idk.

after reading this thread today, I decided to make my own templates too! I made the hair-hardware template and it worked great for the pinwheel bow! THEN I watched the tutorial above, and tried the wrapping technique on my template...well I think it worked to make a boutique bow!
what do you think?!

Can someone give me a quick idea of dimensions? IE: For a 3 inch bow, does anyone know how big that template is? TIA!
