Default Hairbow caving in on itself

Help--I've been making 5" twisted boutique hairbows with 1.5 ribbon and after a few wears, it starts folding in on itself. What am I doing wrong? Is it my creasing? Any help would be appreciated.

5 inches? That's a good size bow. What are you using for a stiffener?

I use stiffen stuff as a stiffener. Could I be using too small of a clip. I'm using an single pronged alligator clip.
