Default Heat sealing question

I have a question about heat sealing spikes. I heat seal with a lighter- but when I try and do the spikes- they always round out a bit. I can't seem to keep them pointy. Also- the very middle of the point- it's almost impossible to heat seal. How does everyone else do it? This is my newest bow- see what I mean on the spikes?

I use a wood burning tool--like the one that Tonya posted pictures for in the Santa Clippee thread...

same here, wood burner. I think I'd have a hard time with spikes and a lighter, too!

I use a lighter. I just had to practive different ways of running the ribbon through the flame. WHen I tried that cut with a wood burner, My points stuck together.

Hi, You may want to try to hold the ribbon up the same way you hold the lighter and run it through the corner very quickly. that way the angle will not broaden.

I don't remember who suggested it but since I have used a candle instead of a lighter. I also fold in the middle but don't hold tightly. With a candle you can hold it away from the flame more and actually see the ribbon melt slightly.
