For the center knot, it is made by laying a 3/8 on top of a 7/8. Treat the two layers as a single ribbon and tie in a knot with the 3/8 on the outside.

For the spikes, Cut your lengths of ribbon. Cut & seal the dovetails. Fold each in half and unfold to mark the center. Stack them up. Poke a needle through the center crease(and into the arm of your couch/pincushion/etc). Fan them out & voila.

HTH!

I think you did good...but I have this same problem-I make my spikes too long, trim them down...mine always look better when I cut them to about 1/2 inch or less sticking out, HTH

I was going to say the same thing. Cut the spikes down a bit & that will help tighten it up. The picture looks to me like it was made with 7/8 ribbon, not sure on yours though. Plus when you think about how different a bow looks with different color combinations you are probably closer to the original than you think you are. I just made a few hairbow to use as an example of that for my website & it is amazing how different the same bow looks in a different color.

Another trial by error bit of wisdom:

Make your bow first. Then lay your ribbon behind your bow to see how much you want sticking out and cut it as it is laying behind the bow. Then cut all your spikes.
