Yes, if you open all the way you will get a U shape. The area around the flame that is hot is circular because the flame is circular. If you put a hot circular flame in the middle of the V cut, it will make the inside rounded.

Keep it folded as much as possible, but don't let the two halves of the V touch and swipe with your flame. Just like doing a diagonal cut only 2 at a time that aren't touching.

I got all jazzed when I saw on here how people used a wood burner to seal their ends . . . . . then I bought one. I can't cut my ribbon worth a DARN with it. After ruining TONS of ribbon, I finally found a trick that works for me and I hope it works for others, too.

I cut all my ribbon with a super sharp scissor. I use the barrel of the wood burner (not the tip) to seal the ends. It is nice and long and gets super hot. I just barely touch it to the ends and VOILA, they are sealed.

For "V" cuts, I cut with the scissors, hold folded over (but not touching) and touch lightly to the barrel on each side. Keeps a great "V" shape without the fuss.

Hope someone finds this helpful.

This is definitely what was happening. But thanks to you ladies I have a couple of techniques to try. Thanks bunches. DD's christening is next weekend and I need to make a perfect bow for her to wear with her dress to the luncheon afterwards. Can't be looking shabby in front of all of those people, lol.

If you can get your hands on one of those 3" triangular metal rulers that you use to build doll houses that would be a great help. I bought one and it has made making "v" cuts real easy for me. I run my woodburning tool along the edge of the ruler to cut my ribbon.

Here is a pic of one of my bows using that metal ruler:

I used to be scared of my woodburner and it took me a very long time to have guts to use it. It takes a little while to get used to. It took me about a week. Now I cut all of my ribbon off the roll with it. I rarely use scissors anymore.
