Default Measurements for making stretchy headbands for brand-new babies?

I already did a search for posts on this, and either I missed it or something...I am trying to find out what sizes (how many inches of fabric) to use to make headbands for newborns. My baby is 10 months old, so I'll just use him to make a more baby-size, but I am looking for what measurement do you use for newborn babies. My SIL is having a baby in about a week and I wanted to make some stretchy headbands for her new baby and am wanting to make them so that they will fit like the day they come home from the hospital. Anyone have a really new newborn they can measure for me? I appreciate it!!!

Some lace elastic streched differently, i made one that was 11 inches and my baby who has an 17 inch head uses a 14inche.

My DD's head was 34cm when she was born so convert that into inches and you have a hairband for a 7lb baby! HTH.

you can always just get the nylon knee highs from walmart ($.33!!!) cut off the thigh part and sew ends together for a stretchy headband no measurements needed.
They are perfect for newborns since they are soo soft and fit so well! HTH

heres a pic of the recent one I made...shes only one which justifies me saying it streches well! it will fit just at perfect on a newborn-Again think NYLON!
you can dye them any color as well to match bows!!!

yup, i used nylon for mine. my dd still uses the ones i made for her before she was born. the stretch lace ones do not fit her anymore (and haven't for a while). She is 16 mo now. Loris
