Default Tell Me Anything About Flip Flops

Okay today I want to make flip flops. My idea is making them in school colors and bows with bottlecap centers with school name or mascot. Flip flops are new to me, but I think will be a good seller. Some questions I have but please add anything that I may not ask?

1. How much do you charge?

2. Do you just buy the cheap dollar ones from Dollar Store or Dollar Tree?

3. Do you wrap or tie ribbon?

4. If you tie do they stay or do you add glue to each tie?

5. I guess I should use e6000 to be safe?

6. Does anyone know how to make an interchangeable bow for them? (I am thinking a black pair with a set of interchangeable bows)

7. How do you attach the bow to the front?

Thanks,
Teresa Miller

Well, I just made 2 pair last week, both interchangeable. They were cute!! I tied my ribbon around, glued it down to the thong. For the interchangeable part, I just wrapped a strip about 2" around the center and glued the ends. Clipped on the bow, that simple. I made a pair to match a shirt I made and my wholesaler bought the set, only in a bigger size. It was cute. Just play around with it.

1. How much do you charge? $15

2. Do you just buy the cheap dollar ones from Dollar Store or Dollar Tree? Yes I do....I have used Old Navy and cheapies and there is not much difference...

3. Do you wrap or tie ribbon? Wrap the straps and then attach the bow with hot glue

4. If you tie do they stay or do you add glue to each tie?

5. I guess I should use e6000 to be safe? I have never had any trouble with mine and I always hot glue

6. Does anyone know how to make an interchangeable bow for them? (I am thinking a black pair with a set of interchangeable bows)

7. How do you attach the bow to the front? glue

Thanks,

I guess everyone woke up. Now I will say good evening. I have been busy working on orders, cleaning house, sleeping, and reading the 3rd Twilight ya know the usually stuff.

Thanks for all the replys. This is what I liked the zip ties what a great idea. Love those things. I would also like to do the interchangable thing I was thinking glueing the ribbon on the flip flop like you would a headband so the bows would slide through to change. Also I believe you could use the zip tie and not pull all the way leave just enough room for the bow to slide through.

Girls as always you are the best, smartest people I know, but most of all the only ones who really care like I do about hairbows, and children boutique items. I asked my husband this evening if he wanted to look at something he said LATER. of course he didn't

Thanks,
Teresa

I made about 250 pair for the local highschool cheerleaders for a fundraiser last fall. They sold them for 15. I use Old Navy flips flops, I don't like the quality of the $store ones. I use E600 for wrapping the bands and then I also attach my bow on with e600. I made the bow out of 3 spikes with korkers on top in the school colors. I have also sold to local peewee football teams in their colors.

1. How much do you charge?
I charge about 15.00 a pair
2. Do you just buy the cheap dollar ones from Dollar Store or Dollar Tree?
I buy mine from Hobby Lobby, because they have a better color selection and will get you more profit.

3. Do you wrap or tie ribbon?
I am assuming you mean around the thong? I wrap mine as well as a bead of glue every so many wraps

4. If you tie do they stay or do you add glue to each tie?
N/A
5. I guess I should use e6000 to be safe?
I use hot glue on mine

6. Does anyone know how to make an interchangeable bow for them? (I am thinking a black pair with a set of interchangeable bows)

7. How do you attach the bow to the front?
I sew the bow with a couple of stitches and then glue for reinforcement

Flip flops were not a good seller for me some people just can't justify 15 dollars if I make them this year I will probably do 10.

Here are some different variations that I have done. I don't mess with the interchangeable bows though.

I thought about attaching the bow with hot glue but I heard it didnt hold as well after a while. I would rather hot glue so I was wondering if yours stayed well with it.

I think it depends on the child, and how much they "play" in the flip flops, my husband actaully bought me some epoxy to use for the bows but it's a pain to work with si I just sewed through the plastic and then used hot glue and nothing ever came off . . .That I know of!
