I was wondering the same thing. I had seen somewhere here earlier this week where someone done a pair of canvas shoes and I loved them and would like to try and make my daughter a pair. If you find out care to share?

Thanks!

I know people use acrylic paints but never tried one. I would recommend fabric paint and use some kind of water proof sealant on top.

In high school we painted some shirts, jeans, etc. for spirit days and used acrylics. Even after laudering the paint remained. I don't know about canvas shoes, but I might try some on an old pair and run them through the wash a couple of times.

I have a canvas tote that is handpainted. i painted and posted a pic last week of shoes I made. i used acrylic and the bag feels very different from the shoes. I will wash the shoes tonight and see how they stand up....I sprayed them with waterproof you get in the shoe section at walmart.

My brother in law suggested that I use fabric paint (he used to paint lots) b.c it would soak into the fabric and most likely last longer. I think the girl who painted my bag mixed a medium into the paint to make it for fabrics.

Hi I actually am a children's artist when I am not making bows and playing with ribbon. Acrylic paint will be come permanent once it dries, you do not have to seal it or prime the area, you can heat set the paint with an iron if you want it to cure faster. They do have a fabric medium that you can get just about any where I know they have it at Michaels and Walmart, it is a clear goop that you add in to the paint and it helps it move smoother over the surface and makes it more of a fabric paint. It comes in the same little bottles that paint comes in and is usually around a buck. I have done it both ways and personaly I think it turns out the same and the wear is the same. The painted area will be stiff but will soften up as it is worn or washed. I hope this helps.
