Default Anyone made applique tees with tie for boys

I was wondering if you used two peices of fabric or one continuous piece for the tie. I always make things for girls so I thought I should make one of these for my son.

I make them. I usually do mine with just one piece but do a zigzag stitch across where the "fold/top" of the tie would be to make it look like its seperated. I have done them with 2 pieces also but I personally like the one piece better.

Joann Fabrics has a tutorial for a tie onesie... this might have some helpful info!

I use two piece so that it looks more like a realistic tie....especially if you are using a striped or plaid print. In a real tie, on the top the pattern goes in a different direction than that at the bottom.

I was looking at my husbands tie when he got home thinking the same thing. Most of the ties I buy him are striped and so is the fabric I'm using. I just need new thread now as I can't seem to find mine!!!

I bought one around THanksgiving off of Etsy and she just stitched around it and it is fraying a little bit, so I am going to try to go all around it first before I try to make him one of my own!

I was wondering if that was going to happen...the fraying, I mean....Can you reall prevent that though without using an embroidery machine?

I was just going to do a close zig zag stitch around it like i would do for an applique. I haven't figured out the embroidery part on my machine yet! My class isn't until April but I want to dig it out before if i can find the time!

It will fray on the edges. If you use a close zig zag stitch then you can try prevent it. Alot of the ones out there are just stitched, and even if its a zig zag they dont do it right on the edge. It actually looks really nice when it is frayed...its adds character and adds to the uniqueness.
