for those who use hairspray to stiffen your cheer bows, do you find that the hairspray wears off or flakes off? I have a little concern using hairspray with cheer bows because cheerleaders are very active with tumbling and cheering that I'm afraid they would lose their stiffness? What do you think? Any experiences with flaking specially on dark Fabrics? Thanks.9

I use spray starch but I will be adding baking to the process as well now that I have seen all of the replies. Thanks for so much info!!!

I am just curious, as to what brand ribbon are you all using which requires stiffining? I have on occasion put my ribbons in the over for about 20min which helps the bow to keep their shape. I do this on ribbon only cheer bows with the centers sewn....Other than that I have never had a reason to need any type of stiffener, and my bows hold their shape for years even after washing.....

I only stiffen my twisted bows. Lately I have tried Aqua Net and really love it.

I've been using hair spray for years now with no issue of flaking. I dry the hair bows either by letting them air dry or if in a hurry I use my oh so awesome embossing gun. I have yet to burn a hair bow. It also helps with the stray glue webs. The heat makes them disappear.

For stiff ribbon I just starch but if it is a floppy type I starch and bake.
