I am new here but this is what I do. I only use hairspray. I tried baking them in the oven once, and didn't really think it was necessary when compared with the hairspray only bows. To me there is such a thing as "too stiff." I do like the nice smell from the hairspray.

I spray mine before AND after they are assembled. So like if I wanted to do a big bow, I would make the center piece and then spray it. I spray and pull at the loops to keep the desired shape. Then I glue the components together and spray the whole thing.

Same here except I bake first, then spray with stiffen stuff right out of the oven... and I only do it for TBB, not pinwheels.

I found some liquid craft starch at my local craft store. $1.00 for a big bottle. After I wind the ribbon on my dowel I use one of those paint sponges to put the starch on the ribbon then bake. Works wonders!

I have always tried to use a good quality ribbon and did not do anything else to tied bows. However, since reading this forum and trying hair spray, I not spray all my hairbows as soon as I make them. For korkers, I wrap around 3/8 inch dowel sticks and bake 30 minutes at 250. Sometimes I spray them with starch before I bake and sometimes I don't. I can't see that it makes any difference.

I personally use "stiffy" fabric stiffner but I dilute it down with water. I have found that if I dilute it too much, the stiffner wears out on the bow after being worn for some time.
For those of you that bake with hairspray and/or stiffner, what does the baking part iself do? is it basically to help speed up the drying process or does it add another benefit to the bow? tia

New here, learned a lot. Thanks!

For those who bake your bows after spray, do you use the same oven that you bake food, or have one just for bows?

I haven't used anything except I was thinking my bows looked sloppy so I just bought some stiffen stuff. Not sure if I should spray ribbon before I make the bow or afterward. What do you y'all reccomend.
