Hey Ladies how on earth do you make these? I am stumped. the only thing I can think of is you cut the pony and glue it to the button back is that right? any help would be fantastic

LMAO

NOOOOO

2 ways to do it...
  1. use a ZipTie to connect the pony O to the button
  2. cut the wires to the back of the button an twistin yourown wire that has the PonyO in it
zipties are easier

Hi,

If you search button pony O's or fabric covered buttons, you'll find a few posts about this--they were very helpful.

I've been making these for a couple of months now. I haven't sold a whole lot, but I use them almost everyday myself!
A few tips:
Make sure you use some sort of interfacing (I think that is what it is called) because without it, you can see the shiny part through most fabrics. I (rather my husband!) take the wire out then reattach it through the elastic. I have also seen for sale at a boutique ones that were just looped through. The rubber bands were thinner than the ones I use, so I guess it would work and not come undone. I haven't seen the zip tie ones, but that sounds easy.
I like that after you put the button O in your hair, you can move the button to the top or wherever you want it. It might be harder to do that with the loop method. I'm not sure about the zip tie method.

Hope this helps some!

I use the loop method with the smaller rubberband. I prefer these because the bigger ones tend to pull my hair. I have super thick hair so I have to put my hair in a pony tail then I put the pony o over it....whether I use the fat or skinny rubber band. Hope this helps.

Ok this may sound like a dumb question to some but I don't sew so I don't know much about fabrics. What exactly is interfacing? I know what it is used for but what is the material like, texture? I don't have a craft store around here otherwise I'd go take a look at it and figure it out myself. I just made my first covered buttons and I noticed on the first one I did that you could see through the material so after that I just doubled the material. What would be the difference in using interfacing instead of just doubling the material? Do you think it would be better for me to go get the interfacing stuff? Thanks for any help on this!

interfacing is cheaper...

just ask the person where you get your fabric from for interfacing they will show you the different weights... take a button an a piece of material and see which works for you without being to stiff...

I do mine the same way-- then they work for all ages! I also like it that with a looped rubber band that I can replace it if it gets too stretched out or breaks.

Most common is the 7/8", also referred to as size 36-- that's what mine are in my avatar and banner...
