Question Re: The CPSIA - IMPORTANT FOR EVERYONE PLEASE READ!!!

Thank for for keeping us updated on this. I have 2 questions. They may have already been answered, but I am still confused.

1) Where do we get the GCC? Is that supposed to be given to us by the ribbon supplier, or craft retail store (ex: Michael's).

2) How do we find a lead testing agency?

Any links that would answer the above questions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You,
Jessica

Below is a link to receive e-mail updates from the Consumer Product Safety Commission about the CPSIA law:

Jessica,

The manufacturer or the distributor you buy from should be able to provide the certificates to you. I spoke with one of the attorneys from Michaels and she was not sure how they were going to get those to customers. I need to contact her again now that I know the glue companies are testing. I will post when I find out.

Here is a link to an article written by Etsy that includes an Action Kit which you can download that has lots of resoursces:

Etsy :: The Storque :: Craftivism :: CPSIA Action Kit and Community Chat

Thanks Little Miss Julia for keeping us updated about the GCC from vendors.

Good info. Thanks! it is a "stay". Since I am no lawyer I looked it up:
stay n. a court-ordered short-term delay in judicial proceedings to give a losing defendant time to arrange for payment of the judgment or move out of the premises in an unlawful detainer case

I THINK this gives us a little time (one year if I read it correctly), if approved. It is still not signed though...

Thanks! So does this mean the law won't be passed until Feb 2010 then?

This still needs to be voted on but it is a big step. I spoke to Nancy Fordís office at the CPSC today and they said to watch their site for an update. Looks like this will pass. Metal component parts to childrenís jewelry will still have to be tested if produced after March 2009. I think that includes barrette parts but the burden is on the manufacturer not people like us!!!!! Keep your fingers crossed looks like this could go away!!!!

If component part testing is passed it will only be of concern to the original producer to test.

Gymboree is probably regretting selling a huge portion of their store for $1.99 today.
