Default Please help!! 7/8 DRR bow trouble!!

Aaaaa . . . I am moving into the world of double ruffle ribbon and having a horrible time!! I have some 7/8" that I want to make a bow out of, but it is not working to say the least!

I have looked at the instructions here and for a DRR bow of 7/8", it said to cut the length to 25" and make 8 loops. To do that, I came out with the teensy, weensiest bow ever ~ you couldn't even tell it was a bow! Plus, it flops all over

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to get some 1.5", but now I'm afraid because I can't work with the smaller stuff.

Okay . . . wheh! Glad to get that off my chest!

TIA!! Heather

I don't cut my ribbon until I am finished most times. That way you can change things if it looks too small or too long. I usually make either 4 or 6 loops on my double ruffle bows. They are all going to be somewhat floppy though, it is just the ribbon. DOuble ruffle just doesn't have any stiffness to it. I have never tried this myself but you could always try to starch it after you are done.

I agree, cut the ribbon last. I used the lengths on here for the DRR and ended up with a very tiny bow.

Thanks! Now I don't feel quite so alone!!

Is it easier with 1.5"? It seems like the 7/8 is so small.

I feel that it is easier to use, just because it is bigger.

I started out with the 1.5" ribbon until I got the feel on how to work with it since it's so flimsy. I finally made my first 7/8" bow the other day with DRR and it worked out well. It just takes some time getting used to it floppin around lol

Could you post a picture of your 7/8? I'm visual (seems like most of us are, huh!!) I would greatly appreciate it!

Also, how do you tie it off? Wire, elastic, thread?

You're awesome ~ thanks for the info!

I already sold it! LOL
I'll make another one and post it either tonight or tomorrow.
I hand sew all my bows, it's the easiest for me!

Thanks!! I would love to see!

I hand sew my bows, too. They seem to hold up better and I just like how they look.
