Default Back of covered buttons

I searched, but never found what I was looking for. What does the back of your covered button look like? Is it just metal or are you doing something to the back so it is less ugly? Also does anyone leave the shank on it? I did for my daughter and then looped the band through and it was good and tight and I like that if I ever had to take it off I could. Yet, does anyone like them like that? I have been asked a lot lately if I would make this for someone and this and this. I have some really cute Christmas fabric and would like to make a few, but know once that button is sealed, it is a done deal!

I just leave the metal exposed. I already line the fabric with fusible webbing and then cut, etc. Metal you don't see if it is up against the head - in my book anyway!

Thanks for the reply. What about the shank? Do you leave yours on or cut it off and thread wire through?

I think the shank would make it wobble once it's on?? I cut it off and use wire to attach the pony and then I just put a dab of e6000 in the center before I put it together just to make sure it stays! ETA: Wobble as in if you cut the shank off, then it would be more flat on the head rather than sticking up off of it because of the shank

I need to find some Christmas fabric-I haven't gone looking for that yet, but just in passing it seems like a lot of the prints are too big?? I just need to go for that so I can focus! I SUCK at picking out fabrics-I just don't have an eye for that kind of stuff!

What kind of wire?

I had some Christmas quilting squares (have never quilted) from a couple of years ago that I bought that is so cute and a neighbor had a garage sale last past year that I got some from. I cannot wait to see how they look.

Just that regular floral wire will do the trick. Just cut it in a tiny piece and bend it like a U. Put the pony in, then insert each end of the wire into the holes and then twist them around a few times and lay it flat against the back. That's when I put the dab of e6000 to give it an extra hold. Just make sure you insert it the right way for the back to fit on the shell!

Yup I do the same - just a dab of glue to ensure that id doesn't come apart. I take hte shank out as well and replace with wire. Works like a charm! Made 50 tonight!!!!

I leave the shank on and just knot the ponytail holder through. I like that I can change the rubberband later if I want a different size or if it wears out.
