Default Sizes when layering a bow?

I am trying my first attempt at layering bows... do you increase the sizes for each layer? I have TOTT instructions, but it is to be used with the bow maker, which confuses me.

Am I doing right if I use this "formula" for layering bows?
1. 4" Base boutique bow
2. 6" Spikes
3. 3.5" Surround bow x2
4. 3" Boutique bow

I am guessing anything bigger than 3" bows should be mounted onto a french barette instead of an alligator clip yes?

Many thanks in advance!

hMmMM...I'm not sure on the sizes...I would like to know a well...with my surrounds I make them by added 2" from the size I made the bow that it's going to sit around...so for example if I cut 24" to make my bow, then I'll cut 26" for my surrounds! Then fold the pieces and it usually comes out pretty even! I read to do it that way somewhere and it really works good for me!

Hiya! Just checked the ribbon lengths and that 2 inch extra makes your bow 0.5 inch bigger! Phew! At least I know now that I am on the right track.

Do you do a base or support bow? What is the purpose of that bow? How big do you do your base or support bow (if you do at all... )
