Default Cutting Korkers With Wood Burner?

I need some tips for cutting my korkers with my wood burner...Do you cut the ribbon at an angle, or straight across? I've tried both but I think it's making the end of the korker straighten out a little...I hope this makes since...If not I can post up some pictures!

I cut mine with my wood burner on an angle. I bought my wood burner probably 2 months ago but was scared of it and just tried it a couple weeks ago. I love it! But it did burn myself pretty good the first few times cutting korkers with it. My korkers usually spring back just fine after straightening them to cut. I'm not sure what to suggest for that. Hopefully someone else does. I usually cook my korkers for a good 35-40 minutes but maybe that's just my oven. I like a tighter curl. I also spray them with hairspray before taking them off of the dowels. I know some people spray them with starch before cooking them. I dunno just some thoughts. Good luck!

I find where I want to cut my kork pieces and then flatten either side with my fingers. I then cut on the "lines" of the grosgrain ribbon. Sometimes I do an angle but I usually do the line and it turns out pretty good. HTH

How do you keep the woodburning from melting it? Maybe I am not fast enough- or my burner is to hot? It just turns into a big ole mess for me.

Hmm I'm not sure i haven't had that problem yet but I have the woodburner from Wallyworld. Maybe it doesn't get as hot as the one you have? I usually cut it on top of a cookie sheet that I attached a metal ruler to.

I'm having the same issue. I just got mine and burned the heck out of the ribbon. I guess I need lots of practice or back to the old way.

I am not sure- but its a mess when I use it. I might try again sometime soon- see if I can try a different way or something.

I sometimes get the flattening but right after I cut if it seems flat I will finger mold it back to a curl and it seems to stay ok.

As for the melting I think the trick is to move pretty fast. I also keep a folded up wet washcloth next to where i am working a often wipe the woodburner on that. It keeps it clean from any stray ribbon gunk and also seems to cool it down just enough to not melt the ribbon as much.
