Post Do you bake your korkers?

I am new to this and am working on my first butterfly. I have never made a Korker but it looks fairly simple. I just need a little explanation of how to make them. I need to soak the ribbon with a fabric stiffener first then wrap it around a dowel, right? My main question is about it drying. I read somewhere that you can bake them and they will set better. Is this true? If so, what temperature do you bake them and for how long. Will it also work if I just let it dry overnight?

Thanks,
Marcia

I don't soak mine with fabric stiffener at all. I bake it dry and then spray it with starch and let it dry. I have no idea what temp I bake at, I forget and each time it's different so hopefully someone else will be able to tell you.

Try to bake 250 degree at 30 minutes. Unwrap a little bit at the end to see if it's done.

I use 3/8" ribbon on 1/4" dowl for butterfly, 1/4" ribbon on 1/8" dowl for cherry stem. 3/8" ribbon on 3/8" dowl for '1st birthday candle'. I don't spray fabric stiffener. It'll hold the shape itself.

Thanks Amanda and Michelle. I will have to run out tomorrow and get a few rods. I have my wings ready and waiting.

It's 3/8" ribbon on 1/4" rod. I've seen 1/8" ribbon on 1/4" rod korker bows. very cute.

I too bake mine on 275 for approx 27 minutes. I use spray starch before baking..I like them to be a little firmer when then come out.. To me they hold up better.

I bake mine at 275 for 30-35 minutes. I have a gas over so temp and time varies. It's best to experiment:O)

Right, I think firmer korker is easier to be attached. I'll try it next time.

Thanks.
