I never said I wanted to master it in a month. I've done a lot of different things in my life, enough to know that anything that is done well isn't mastered quickly! I simply said I'd been pouring over instructions and can't seem to get it - I meant I can't seem to get some of the very basics and was wondering if I was just missing something. That's all!

Believe me, for the very short time that I've been doing this I too have been pouring my heart and soul into it trying to perfect the bows I have gotten down and trying to get better at the ones I'm not so good at!

Same as you, except for I'm just beginning. I really appreciate all of the positive advice and constructive criticism...

Lorraine made an excellent point. You are doing yourself a disservice by putting your products out there too soon. Many of us have done it. I did. What happens is people see your bows that are not so great.

Later on you have worked more on perfecting the craft and your products are much better.

A potential customer does a google search and your business name comes up. She remembers your name and thinks, "Hmm, I saw her stuff at a craft show. It wasn't what I was looking for." You have lost a potential customer because you were too anxious to get out into the marketplace.

Some experienced bow makers are offended by new people who do this. I can't tell you how many times I have argued with my husband because I know a person has ordered one of our products just to take it apart to try to learn how to make our bows. He says they paid for the bow, so send it. I say I know she is a bow maker; I'm refunding her money and telling her I don't sell to bow makers.

While some are offended at the "over enthusiasm" to get out there, others are trying to help you. We are telling you to take a step back and realize that you are hurting yourself and the market by putting inferior products on the market too soon.

Practice, practice, practice. You'll get it. I put a picture of one of my first bows and one of my recent bows on another thread. Huge difference. And I thought the first ones were awesome! I wish someone had given me this advice back then. Take it or leave it. It's your choice.
I completely understand where everyone is coming from...I know most on here have spent years perfecting what they do.

I guess when I mentioned going to the show I failed to say that I was ONLY taking the bows (and other things) that I HAVE perfected and that do look really good. I've already sold several of these in fact.

I would never take bows that look like crap or ones I haven't perfected - I will hopefully be doing this a long time and don't want anything out there that would give me a bad name. No, at the show I'm simply tagging along with a friend who already has a booth just to see what it's all about. I'm taking a few things just to see how they go over.

I do a lot more items than bows - I mainly got into the bows because I already make them for my daughter. Thanks for your advice!

Now I have come to the conclusion that you are hyper sensitive. So I'm done.

I actually didn't think it was you who was being negative at all! I thought you were very helpful...that wasn't directed at you.

Sorry, but when you say you have to make your bows look like pictures for a craft show in a month, it's easy to misunderstand your intent. It takes years to perfect.

There are some incredible bow makers here and although they are good people, they are also honest. Personally, I'm always glad for their honesty.

Yeah, the few bows that I've been working on I WOULD like to perfect...but by NO means do I want to perfect the "ENTIRE bow making bit" - that's just insane.

Yes I know it takes years...and yes, I know there are seasoned bowmakers out here. So it looks like they'd be the ones to offer the best advice (and most of them have, which I appreciate!)

Geez, I didn't think this was going to turn into this...all I wanted some some simple tips on folds, etc.

I will post pics of what I've already done and just let people tear into it as they wish.

another poster remarked the purpose of this forum is to help; I believe the purpose of this forum is to direct you to the store; if you get some help along the way, awesome. If you ask for advice, you will get it. You might not like it, but you will get it.

OK - several people have asked me to post pics for "constructive criticism"...here they are (IF I figured out how to post them correctly). This is my first time doing this so this is all new to me...if they don't come up, I will try again.

Also if I am posting in the wrong forum then please let me know where to post things like this (advice, etc). Like I said, this is all new to me...When I saw the title "How to Make" I assumed it was for advice on well, how to make!
